Interesting Web Sites for Seniors

Here are a few that are designed with the needs and interests of older persons in mind

Fine ART
The Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco  site has 50% of its collection in files that you can access from the Internet.  You can search the imagebase at http://www.thinker.org/imagebase/index.html

SeniorNet is host to book clubs and learning centers as well as a medication question-and-answer section and a forum on "successful aging."
SeniorLink provides access to "eldercare" professionals, programs and activities.
SeniorCom carries senior "chat rooms" and the "Senior News Network," along with services such as travel packages, wellness programs and on line shopping.
Third Age Media, a website for the 50+ American.
SeniorLaw Home Page helps older persons, families, attorneys and financial planners to access information about "elder law," Medicare, medicaid, estate planning, trusts and the rights of the elderly and disabled.

International Association of the Third Age The AIUTA is a universal shelter, kind of an umbrella, under which the whole world's senior citizens can meet and keep company with each other. This in itself expresses the AIUTA 's soul. Our AIUTA wants to be the site reuniting each and every person distinguished as senior citizen, regardless of national origin or orientation, and to make all of them feel integrated . ElderHostel

Founded in 1975, The ElderHostel Institute Network is a non-profit organization committed to providing high quality, affordable educational opportunities for older adults. EIN supports the belief that learning is a lifelong process throughout every season of life.

Some Interesting Facts:

  • There are 31 LIR's in the ALIROW family.
  • There is only one LIR in Canada that belongs to ALIROW.
  • ALL is the only affiliate that does not have a sponsoring institute of learning.
  • CLE is the oldest LIR in the west. It is 20 years young.
  • There are 23 cities in the west with institutes for Learning in Retirement.
