How to Start an LIR

It is easy to organize an LIR institute in your own university, college, or community college. Start with an ALIROW Publication Handbook.

Organize a committee of community leaders for preliminary planning.

Get information from other LIR's and then go and
observe them.
Talk with the Dean of Education of your institution
about your plans.
Request the appointment of a faculty liaison person.

Select a model for your LIR. (See the Handbook.)
Present your plan to the host institution.
Test your ideas with several "dry run" classes.
Set up a committee to create a curriculum.
Publish a class schedule and prepare public announcements.
Implement a plan for membership recruitment.
