How to Start an LIR

It is easy to organize an LIR institute in your own university, college, or community college. Start with an ALIROW Publication Handbook.
  • Organize a committee of community leaders for preliminary planning.
  • Get information from other LIR's and then go and
    observe them
    .

  • Talk with the Dean of Education of your institution
    about your plans.

  • Request the appointment of a faculty liaison person.
  • Select a model for your LIR. (See the Handbook.)

  • Present your plan to the host institution.

  • Test your ideas with several "dry run" classes.

  • Set up a committee to create a curriculum.

  • Publish a class schedule and prepare public announcements.

  • Implement a plan for membership recruitment.
  • HAVE some FUN!
